Why a documentary approach suits an academic setting
An academic defence has its own gravity and formality, and it deserves a photographer who respects that. I work silently and blend into the room, so the jury and the audience forget I'm there. Nothing is staged or re-enacted. I capture the real proceedings as they happen, with the same editorial eye I bring to my documentary wedding work.
